Mountain Pygmy-possums (Burramys parvus) sleep for seven months of the year. They live in boulderfields in alpine and subalpine Victorian and New South Wales, competing with us for our ski fields. In Autumn, Pygmy-possums gobble Bogong Moths, millipedes and Mountain Plum Pine seeds until they get round and fat; when the temperature falls, they tuck themselves under thick blankets of snow to hibernate.
The future of alpine critters is in our hands. Climate change is causing cold habitats to shrink, leaving dwindling populations stranded on their mountain-top homes, like islands in the sky.
$5 from the sale of each print will be donated to Seed Indigenous Youth Climate Network, a movement of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people working for Climate Justice. www.seedmob.org.au
